In 2023, we bought a townhouse on the South end of Saint Simons Island in Georgia. The multi-level floorplan is spacious featuring a dining room, a large and open living room that leads out to the balcony overlooking goreous wooded greenspace. Upstairs are three-bedrooms and two baths. In addition, this residence features a large, two-car garage allowing for easy access. The property was in a perfect location and ideal for long stays.

The neighborhood is quietly nestled in the heart of St. Simons Island, offering serene, peaceful and beautifully landscaped grounds with two lagoons and swimming pool access. Demere Landing is centrally located with a 1/2 mile walk to the beach and a 10-minute bike ride to Pier Village entertainment, restaurants and shopping on the island. What was not to love – right? The problem was it was terribly outdated aesthetically.

In spite of knowing we would have to spend considerable time, effort and money into a major refurbishment, we were all in on this dream vacation property.

And so it began — meeting with a local contractor and trying to accomplish this massive update from Dallas. The key is finding a trustworthy, quality contractor and we found that in Allen Construction. They were awarded the 2017′ HGTV dream home on St. Simons Island, Georgia and came highly recommended by our Realtor.

Would you believe I did the entire renovation via FaceTime? Yes! I’m delighted to say that in May of 2024, our renovation was complete and it was truly an amazing experience. The property even featured our townhome in a magazine Coastal Home on “Decorating a Vacation Rental” which I had framed and it proudly hangs on the wall.

It was a hard decision on whether or not to use it as a rental property. We ultimately decided to turn it into a business and we are glad. It has been an interesting, yet positive experience.
